ZBrush 3.0 artist feedback.

CGSociety has a small piece up on what artists have to say about using some of the latest features in ZBrush 3.0 from Pixologic.

Rhino 4 released.

Rhino 4 has been released with quite a few new features.  At $195 for the educational version and $995 for the commercial single user license version, it’s tough to beat that price.  Especially for all of the formats that it can import and export.  Here’s a link straight to the new features in version 4.

Bronze Sculpture

I ran across this site that showcases the work of David Goode.  I really like the character and style of the bronze sculptures.  I think it’s tough to get an idea of the scale while just looking at the gallery.  Some of them you can easily get an idea, but I was reading through his news section and he walks you through the entire process from start to finish.  You can see him working right next to the piece which gives you an idea of how big they actually are.  Lots of good info.  I love to watch people work on their projects.

Beautiful Porcelain Castings

I ran across this site which showcases the work of Makoto Komatsu.  The pieces on the page look beautiful.  I really like the texture and smooth lines of each piece.  Take a look of you like porcelain sculpture.

Mudbox is now offering a free trial.

Skymatter Ltd., the company behind Mudbox is now offering a free trial.  Now, anyone can download and give the digital sculpting tool a try.  It’s got a nice clean interface, and a good learning curve.  Download it and jump right in.

Mudbox

Mudbox has been out for a little while now, but since I didn’t have a reference to it here, I figured I would put it up.  It has a really simple interface that will allow you to dive right into sculpting in 3D.  I have used Zbrush in the past, and there is something about it’s interface that was really restricting to me.  I’m not sure what it was, but something always just felt off.  Mudbox is really simple and definitely worth a look for anyone just starting out.
